Is the 22 caliber adequate for self defense? Something is better than nothing. IMO, the 22LR is a very viable option to use in self-defense in a lot of different scenarios and not a viable option in certain scenarios.
A proper risk assessment should be conducted to evaluate effectiveness. What is YOUR goal and definition of Self Defense? What are you defending against? Are you trying just to create space between you and the threat, repel the threat, immobilize the threat, or to kill the threat. Is the threat 2 legged, 4-legged, slithering, etc? What will the threat use against you to cause harm? Budget constraints? Training? Medical issues? Strength? Size?
Numerous factors should go into the decision if the 22LR is the right choice for someone’s particular defensive needs. And only the particular individual can make the decision if the 22LR is the BEST choice for their particular risk.
